Recently, six expatriates from different countries and regions visited the Suzhou Museum of Contemporary Art (Suzhou MoCA), a new landmark on the right bank of Jinji Lake, SIP, enjoying a cross-cultural experience in an immersive artistic atmosphere.

The museum, designed by Danish architectural firm Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), was among 10 of the most eye-catching museums and galleries featured on Dezeen, the world’s most influential architecture, interiors and design magazine.

Following the guide, the expatriates visited the four opening exhibitions: “Picasso and the World of His Influence”, “Gen: A Journey Through Art’s Transcendence”, “Codes & Canopies: Art Beyond the Age of Algorithms”, and “BIG: Materialism”, which respectively present world-class classics, Chinese contemporary art, high-tech art, and architectural aesthetics. They toured around the exhibition halls, listening to stories behind art creation and sharing their unique understandings of the artworks.

Rogova Elena, a visitor from Russia, spoke highly of the museum’s environment, “You can enjoy great art, beautiful scenery, creative spaces, and even fine food here. I want to bring all my friends here.”

Beyond the museum, the expatriates experienced different ways of decoding art.

They enjoyed a tour in the Picasso-themed art bus where they wrote down their expectations for the Suzhou MoCA and their feelings about art in Suzhou.

The expatriates also took a ride on the “Suzhou Eye” Ferris wheel in its specially decorated cabin, where geometric prism windows transformed the Jinji Lake skyline into a cubist visual feast.
