Barco (Suzhou) Healthcare Technology Co Ltd, a branch of Barco, a Belgian company that develops networked visualization solutions for the entertainment, enterprises and healthcare markets, was recently approved to carry out bonded maintenance business in the China (Jiangsu) Pilot Free Trade Zone Suzhou Area in SIP. It is the second company outside the comprehensive bonded zone in the area to obtain this qualification, following Philips Healthcare (Suzhou) Co Ltd.

Bonded maintenance refers to the business activity in which enterprises, operating outside customs special supervision zones, import from overseas goods or transportation tools that have issues such as damaged components, functional failures, or quality defects in a bonded fashion. These items are inspected and repaired domestically and then re-exported.

As early as 2012, SIP took the lead nationwide to pilot support for bonded maintenance. So far, six companies in the free trade zone in the park have successively carried out bonded maintenance operations.

Barco (Suzhou) Healthcare Technology was founded in SIP in 2020 as a major comprehensive facility for R&D, manufacturing and marketing of medical display systems in the Asia-Pacific region. The qualification for bonded maintenance is expected to strengthen the company’s strategic position in Barco’s global network.

       The company is estimated to, after the bonded maintenance project goes into operation, repair approximately 2,000 display systems each year, with maintenance service fees reaching about RMB15 million, which is projected to drive a 10% increase in the company’s annual imports and exports.
